Carmenere La Cruz Estampa 2010 | 92 Vinous

Estampa Wine LaCruz Carmenere Syrah Cab Sauv 2010,

LACRUZ 2010 ESTAMPA

ORIGIN: MARCHIGÜE - COLCHAGUA VALLEY

CARMÉNÈRE 71% CABERNET SAUVIGNON 9% SYRAH 20%

LaCruz 2010 was made from grapes picked at Marchigüe Estate. This vineyard, with its granitic soils, offers complexity in the grapes which is ultimately expressed in the final wine. The climatic conditions in Colchagua are outstanding for the production of the grapes that are used to make LaCruz. 2010 was an historic vintage with the grapes able to ripen exceptionally well due to the decent temperatures during the spring and the lack of rainfall which led to grapes with an optimum phenolic ripeness.

VINIFICATION: The grapes were fermented separately but each was subject to a cold soak at a temperature of 8°C for 5 days to obtain greater colour and aromas. Fermentation, then took place at 26-28°C with regular pump-overs to extract colour, tannins and flavours from the skins. After fermentation a further period of maceration occurred to ensure that the tannins were round and complex.

TASTING NOTES: A deep, bright purply red with violet tinges. This wine is bursting with intense dark fruit aromas such as blueberries and blackberries blended with subtle hints of red fruit especially ripe and juicy cherries. These are also accompanied by soft, toasty notes from the French barrel ageing. This wine is full of concentrated, ripe fruit flavours such as cherries, blackcurrants and blueberries. Its tannins are silky, complex and round. This is a truly elegant wine with a long, lingering finish.
