Mataro Gatt 2014 Barossa Valley
James Halliday 91 Point
"James Halliday - Published on 11 Aug 2016
Light, bright colour; an enjoyable mataro, particularly because the tannins are fine, allowing secondary characters to develop on the bouquet and palate. Well made."
Single Vineyard Handpicked
During recent visit to Gatt Wines in South Australia I discovered Mataro (or mourvedre) offered as a single variety, which seems to be become a re occurring fashion trend from Barossa. The Rhone Valley grape, which normally is used for blending with Grenache And Syrah has been widely overlooked for many years.
Only 100 dozen of this Glorious Mataro were made.
The wine shows great beauty, characterized by enchanting rose and sandalwood perfume, potent blueberry fruit and nots of truffle framed by exquisite tannins.
The wine is enjoyable to drink now and has potential to age for at least 20 years.
